How to Choose a Material Structure for Custom Packaging Bags

A packaging film is rarely chosen by appearance alone. The packed product, filling process, storage conditions, shelf-life target and destination-market requirements all affect the structure.

Start With the Product

Powders, snacks, liquids and products containing oil or strong aromas can require different barriers and sealing behaviour. Tell the supplier what will be packed and whether the product is hot-filled, frozen, sterilised or stored at room temperature.

Define the Functional Requirements

  • Moisture, oxygen, light or aroma barrier
  • Puncture resistance and carrying strength
  • Seal strength and compatibility with the packing line
  • Required clarity, stiffness or metallic appearance
  • Food-contact and market-specific requirements, where applicable

Balance Performance and Production

Adding layers or thickness is not automatically better. The goal is a structure that meets the real performance need and can be converted and sealed reliably. A packaging supplier should review the full application rather than recommending a generic material from a photo. For a project-specific review, see our flexible packaging bags or send your requirements.
